Welcome to the Salm Bräu!

Welcome to the Wonderful World of House-Brewed Beer Specialties

Step into a realm of handcrafted beer brewed from traditional recipes, a passion for authentic Viennese cuisine, and top-quality spirits distilled from our own beers. Welcome to our historic venue, steeped in over 450 years of dynamic history.

Our building, a protected historic site, and especially its cellars, hold tales of the past. Before 1717, this location was home to vineyards and a wine cellar owned by Jacob Daniel Tepser, then Mayor of Vienna. In 1717, the vineyard was sold to the Imperial Court, and Empress Amalie Wilhelmina commissioned the construction of a monastery and adjoining widow´s residence.

The monastery´s foundation stone was laid on May 13, 1717, with the Italian architect Felice d’Allio overseeing the construction. Salm Bräu sits next to Belvedere Palace, the former residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736).

The present-day Georg Hall once served as a stable for the Empress’s carriage horses.

In 1994, the brewery restaurant was established by O. Salm & Co. within the former economic wing of the monastery, a section also once inhabited by its founder, Empress Wilhelmine Amalia.

Welcome to Salm Bräu, proudly run by the Welledits family!
